Seth Godin has three good posts today on the labour market. Only yesterday I was discussing with a friend how difficult it is to connect a potential employee with a potential employer. Current methodologies suck. Interestingly if you check trackback on Seth’s posts you’ll see an enterprising soul recruiting off of it. Nice.
And talking of recruiting, today I rang a small charity organisation. I had volunteered to help out last week. Actually it took me three days to get through on the phone, so a bit longer than a week. Finally I speak to someone and mail them my CV. Days go by. I ring again. Sorry, not had time to check it out, so busy. Hence my call, I say, I could help out, I’m a capable guy etc. Will get onto it etc. I should also say, at this point, that their website asks for volunteers to help out.
So today I finally get through again. Now, I believe in what this org is doing, I have many skills which I’m sure would be of use. My price in the job market is pretty high. So here you are, an expensive commodity for nothing, here . . . BUT they still haven’t even read the CV, too busy, you see there are only two people in the office. Yes, I say, that’s why . . . oh, forget it.
