redundant connections are now necessary
a couple of days ago i lost internet connectivity. the dsl light on my router is flashing it’s little heart out. the house is in chaos. i’ve been trying to work at home using a 3G card. zac can’t shoot anyone online, zoe’s locked out of club penguin and ita can’t do any work either. it’s like it used to be in the old days when the electricity sparked out. misery.
i’ve come to the conclusion that redundant connections are now necessary even in the home.
the well-meaning people i’ve been speaking to in bombay are no help. i tried to explain that i’ve changed the filters, unplugged all the phone extensions, tried other modems, done a handstand, but i still have to go through the same old checklist every time. including what operating system the computer is running that’s connected via ethernet cable, always to be told that there’s nothing they can do because they don’t support linux. i don’t want them to, i say, just to support my dsl line.
latest news is that someone will call me back within 48 hours. fuck.

Myrtle Cottage
my parents have moved to Hythe in Hampshire to retire. It’s a small town by the sea where you can watch the ferries sail from Southampton to the Isle of White and vice-versa. I visited with the kids today and stumbled by this house. In 1931 a certain TE Lawrence moved there, seconded by the RAF to the power boat building yards. (He designed a patrol boat used by the navy for many years). This was all under the name TE Shaw, one of his two attempts to find anonymity after his WW1 heroics.

yesterday was groundhog day. with the free day, due to the “adverse weather conditions”, we watched a movie with the kids . . . groundhog day.
zoe said it was boring because the same stuff kept happening.
