lower case [General] — rustle @ 1:27 am

lower case

john mortimer, the english writer, describes going to his old school, eton, and looking at the wall where students have written their names over the years. all use large capital letters, except one, shelley. some time later he happens to visit harrow school, again there’s a place where students have written their names, again in large capital letters. again except one, byron. they didn’t know each other until much later.

ee cummings is famous for writing only in lower case. there’s an ee cummings joke. HELP MY TYPEWRITER IS BROKEN. but, the lower case was his publisher’s idea, not his.
